Information we process

When you visit the site

Our hosting provider, Vercel, may process standard request information such as your IP address, browser and device details, the page requested, and the time of the request. This information is used to deliver the site, maintain security, and diagnose technical problems.

When you join the newsletter

If you choose to subscribe, we send your email address and request IP address to Buttondown. Buttondown uses that information to send the confirmation message, manage the subscription, deliver emails, and prevent abuse. BASIS SciMag does not keep a separate copy of the subscriber list in its own database.

A subscription starts only after you confirm it by email. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link and subscription-management controls.

Editorial systems

Sanity provides the content-management system used by authorised editors. Public readers do not need a Sanity account. Sanity may process technical request information when its services deliver site content or provide access to the protected editorial Studio.

How we use information

Information is used only to operate and secure the site, provide features you request, deliver the newsletter, respond to privacy requests, and meet applicable legal obligations. BASIS SciMag does not sell personal information or share newsletter addresses for third-party advertising.

Service providers

These providers process information only where their services are used:

• Vercel privacy notice — website hosting, delivery, security, and operational logs.
• Buttondown privacy policy — newsletter confirmation, delivery, and subscription management.
• Sanity privacy policy — content management and protected editorial access.

Cookies and analytics

The public reading experience does not use advertising cookies or behavioural analytics. Authorised editors may receive authentication or preview cookies when they sign in to the protected Sanity Studio or enable draft preview. Those editor-only cookies are not required to read the magazine.

Retention and your choices

Newsletter information remains with Buttondown while your subscription is active and for any additional period required for security, compliance, or service operation under Buttondown’s policy. You can unsubscribe at any time from any newsletter. Operational logs are retained by our service providers according to their policies and service agreements.

You may ask us to review, correct, or delete personal information associated with the newsletter. Some information may need to be retained where required by law or for security and abuse prevention.

Student privacy

BASIS SciMag is written for students, but the public site does not ask readers for their age, school records, precise location, or other sensitive student information. The newsletter form asks only for an email address and consent. If you believe personal information was submitted in error, contact us so we can review the request.
